With responsibility for ongoing training and continual development across the company, she is currently completing an MSc in Organisational Psychology to further her expertise. Dr Amina Moss is a Lecturer in Aquaculture Nutrition at the Institute of Aquaculture, University of Stirling. As an Aquaculture Nutrition Lecturer, Amina specialises in developing sustainable feeding strategies for crustaceans, formulating specialised diets such as microbound feeds, and extracting fractions such as protein, phospholipids from marine by-products. Committed to inclusivity, she contributes to initiatives like the Institute of Aquaculture's EDI committee and Aurora Advance HE.

Winner of Aquaculture UK’s Rising Star Award, she is passionate about the growth and expansion of the seaweed industry and its role in a rapidly developing blue economy. She is currently the Business Development Manager for the Scottish Seaweed Industry Association (SSIA).

As a marine extension associate for Maine Sea Grant, Annie supports the planning, development and implementation of the Maine Aquaculture Hub, a collaborative network that strives to situate aquaculture as a diversifying and strengthening industry for coastal economies. In addition, in her general work as an extension associate, Annie works alongside sea farmers, municipalities, regulators, researchers, teachers, students and others interested in aquaculture. Annie's background is in outdoor education, applied research, and shellfish husbandry. She is a US Coast Guard licensed captain and is based at UMaine's marine campus, the Darling Marine Center, in Walpole, Maine, USA.

Dr. Juli-Anne Russo is a Jamaican aquaculture scientist specialising in aquaculture biosecurity, nutrition, and feed management. She is the founder and CEO of the Caribbean Aquaculture Education and Innovation Hub which is the umbrella for Women in Caribbean Aquaculture, the Caribbean Aquaculture Network and Youth in Caribbean Aquaculture.

Interview with Janina Costa

After completing an MSc in Aquaculture at the University of Algarve, Janina joined the Institute of Aquaculture at the University of Stirling to do a PhD in fish virology and vaccine development, and as a post-doc participated in one of the first Scottish viral cardiomyopathy projects.
After working for an environmental consultancy in Tenerife where she led the fish health section, Janina was involved in environmental impact studies as well as EU and Spanish Government research projects.
Janina then returned to Scotland to join Moredun Research Institute’s aquaculture group as a researcher. At Moredun, she focused on fish vaccine development and immunology of salmon, tilapia and Mediterranean species, and the discovery of biomarkers for CMS, PD and HSMI. She is now an Aquaculture Innovation Officer with SAIC.

Sarah brings over 20 years’ experience to her current roles having previously worked at Scottish Sea Farms and Aquascot.

In her work with Northern Light Consulting, Sarah has provided strategic support for organisations such as the Scottish Association of Marine Science and has helped many businesses to secure funding and deliver innovation, research and development projects in the aquaculture sector.

As Director of Innovation & Engagement, Sarah leads SAIC’s ‘Driving Innovation’ activities, which include supporting a range of innovative R&D projects, drawing down third-party funding for sustainable aquaculture research, and providing extensive services to SAIC’s several hundred Consortium members.

Anne Anderson is Head of Sustainability & Development with Scottish Sea Farms. She was formerly Sustainability Director for the Scottish Salmon Producers Organisation, where she led the sector-wide Scottish Salmon Sustainability Charter.

Having always enjoyed working in a challenging and multi-complex environment, Anne moved into finfish aquaculture in 2018 following a 30-year public career in the public sector which culminated in heading up the regulatory function of the Scottish Environment Protection Agency and is thoroughly passionate about the responsible and sustainable production of farmed salmon.

Interview with Clémence Fraslin, winner of the WiSA ‘Academic champion of the year’ award, 2024

Clémence was born in France and grew up in Madagascar before coming back to France for her undergraduate and postgraduate studies. She has an engineering degree from AgroParisTech where she specialised in animal production systems. She then completed a PhD in Animal Genetics from Université Paris Saclay on the genetic basis of rainbow trout resistance to Flavobacterium psychrophilum. After her PhD Clémence stayed in the same lab for a first postdoctoral position to work on spontaneous masculinisation of female rainbow trout and then moved to Scotland in November 2019 to start as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Houston lab and then the Robledo lab at the Roslin Institute, further working on optimising selective breeding to increase fish health and resistance to pathogens.
